Taming the Wild Northwest: Single Tracks, Sticky Mud, and Full-Throttle Smiles

If you think you know Northern Vietnam, wait until you ditch the tarmac and aim a Honda CRF300L straight up a jungle ridgeline.
In our latest ride out into the rugged mountains of Northwest Vietnam, our crew traded smooth highways for slick red clay, rocky riverbeds, and goat tracks carved high above the clouds. With Cuong charting the line out front and Diep—the undisputed wizard of trailside mechanics—watching our six, the squad took on one of the rawest enduro playgrounds Southeast Asia has to offer.

Between clutching up steep bamboo climbs and threading through remote hill tribe villages where kids lined the trails to high-five mud-splattered gloves, this tour tested everyone’s stamina. There were stalls, sweat, and a couple of graceful mud naps, but the reward? Sweeping views across terraced valleys, piping-hot bowls of countryside pho, and cold beers around the fire with the local families who welcomed us in.
