This multi-nation off-road adventure starts in Hanoi and takes us down the legendary Ho Chi Minh Trail behind the wheel of a vintage US Army Jeep. Take on the jungle tracks and remote villages of one of the last isolated places on earth. Battle sites and war history make this drive a special adventure. We start by leaving Hanoi to stay overnight in the Pu Luong nature reserve on a local homestay, the next day we cross the border and make our way to Xam Nua, Phonsavan and meet the real Ho Chi Minh Trail. We continue through jungles and mountains on our way south across the DMZ to Xepon, Ta Oi, Saravan and Attapu, with battle sites and amazing landscapes on this adventure drive that you will never forget. Yes. To self-drive a US Army Jeep in Vietnam and Laos, you must hold a valid International Driving Permit (IDP) in addition to your home country driver’s license. Both documents must be carried with you at all times during the tour. If you don’t hold an IDP, you can still join the tour as a passenger, or we can provide an experienced driver for your Jeep.
Absolutely. This tour welcomes mixed groups, motorbike riders can travel alongside the self-drive Jeeps as part of the same convoy, following the same route, schedule, and support vehicle. It’s a great option for groups with mixed preferences or experience levels.
This tour is rated Medium to Advanced, with 70–80% off-road driving across mountain tracks, jungle trails, and remote border roads. Prior 4×4 or off-road driving experience is recommended, though our lead guide and sweep vehicle are with you the entire way for support.
Yes. Your Lao tourist visa, all border permits, and crossing fees are included in the tour price for both the outbound and return crossings between Vietnam and Laos.
Self Drive means you sit behind the wheel and drive your own Jeep for the full route (IDP required). Passenger means you ride along in the Jeep while one of our experienced local drivers handles the driving, ideal if you don’t hold an IDP or simply prefer to relax and take in the scenery.
