Far North Border Ha Giang Motorbike tous starts with a ride from Hanoi to Ba Be Lake national park and make our way to the highlands of Ha Giang province. The rocky landscape is home to colorful hill-tribes and single track riding along the border with China. Day 4 in we head towards to the terraced rice fields of Hoan Su Phi and the lively markets of Bac Ha, we end the ride in Sapa and Lao Cai on the border with China, return to Hanoi by overnight soft sleeper train.

Far North Rides
On our rides to the north, we finish the tours in the border town of Lao Cai. Once in Lao Cai, we provide an overnight soft sleeper train with 4 berths per cabin or a VIP private coach back to Hanoi ( 4hr.) The cost of shipping the bikes is included in our price above.
All of our guided motorbike tours include an English-speaking guide out front and a mechanic acting as a sweeper in the back. On the road, if you want to stop to take photos, enjoy the scenery or meet people along the way, no problem. You don’t have to worry about keeping up with the group or missing a turn, you can travel at your own pace. We travel this way to keep the group safe and be there in case of anything goes wrong. We want to spend the most time on tour driving through Vietnam’s mountains instead of spending the last day of your ride on the flat, busy highway back to Hanoi. The coach takes the new highway that motorbikes are not allowed, it’s a smooth fast back to Hanoi 3-4 hr. you can sit back and relax.
The roads closer to Hanoi and its suburbs’ are busy and dangerous. Trucks, buses, cars, and other motorbikes make the entry back into Hanoi during rush hour a nerve-racking experience.
At Lao Cai, we have a guest house to take a shower, eat a nice meal, and have a few beers with your friends to decompress after the ride, the VIP private coach is comfortable and takes the highway back to Hanoi, (4HR.) On the coach there is WIFI and cold drinks (beer) is available for the ride.
We put the motorbikes in a truck or train to transport them back to Hanoi. When we arrive in Hanoi we take you to hour hotel end of services.

We pick you up at your hotel at 7:30 am, Please be checked out of your room have all your luggage and have eaten breakfast we will transfer you to our garage to get set up on the bikes we depart around 8:30 am, Crossing the Red River and head north on Highway 1 a divided highway leaving Hanoi for two hours 70km and turn off on quiet country roads passing through hills, fields and villages to the border town of That Khe, Overnight in a guest house, Vietnamese dinner in a local restaurant.
Day 2: That Khe - Ban Gioc Waterfall - Quang Uyen,180 km, ( home-stay)
On-road and off-road Section 5 hr
Wake up at 7 am and go out for a local noodle soup for breakfast we depart That Khe at 8 am and head west on Highway4 for 1 hr. then turn off on small roads that parallel the border on our way to Cao Bang province and the limestone plateau of Quang Uyen. Along the way, we can stop at famous battlefields in the Viet Minh’s war against the French in the 1950s. We make our way on small back roads to the Ban Gioc Waterfall right on the border with China. The landscape turns into limestone karst and is described as Halong Bay on land with sharp rock formations jutting of green rice fields. We head for the off-road section along the border and explore the region and hidden valleys. Overnight with Nung family in their house on stilts.
Day 3: Quang Nguyen - Cao Bang Town, 120km (hotel)

Today we take time to explore back-roads and tracks through villages in this amazing landscape stopping for a picnic lunch before heading to Pac Bo and Ho Chi Minh’s cave. A place where the leader of the Viet Minh commanded the resistance to French occupation. We take off-road tracks some near the border and make our way to overnight in the provincial city of Cao Bang, Overnight in Hotel, dinner at a local restaurant.
Day 4: Cao Bang town - Ba Be Lake National Park, 150 km ( home-stay)
On-road and off-road section 5hr
Leaving Cao Bang Town we heard through the mountains and make our way to Ba Be National Park. it’s a great ride through the mountains with a few river crossings. Lunch on route before turning off to the small road that takes us to the Nang River. There we put the bikes on boats and journey up the river through caves to the Ba Be Lake National Park, This spectacular clear lake surrounded by jungle-covered mountains is great for a swim and is cool in the summer. Overnight and dinner with a local Tay hill-tribe family.
Day 5: Ba Be Lake National Park - Bao Lac - Meo vac 230 km, (guest house)
On-road and off-road section 5hr
After breakfast, we head north through hill-tribe villages, forest and rivers and climb through the rolling countryside where we take time to relax and enjoy the views, We meet up with Highway 23 and make our way to the small market town of Bao Lac. From there we get on the small single tracks that creep along the border with China. Steep single tracks and river crossings on a bamboo raft, then we climb up to the Meo Vac plateau and its spectacular black rock landscape, taking time to explore some back roads as we make our way to the district town of Meo Vac overnight in guesthouse. Vietnamese dinner at a local restaurant.
Day 6: Meo Vac - Dong Van, 20 km, (3-star hotel)
Exploring back roads
We leave Meo Vac and start on the steep mountain gorges, looking for off-road sections and single track riding in the high rocky mountains, Here you see many colourful hill-tribes and spectacular scenery. We have time to stop taking photos and visit some villages on Saturday and Sundays we will come across local weekly markets. At the end of the days ride we climb the Ma Phi Lieng Pass with a road that hugs the face and we climb up to the top and enjoy the views into China, Overnight in Dong Van town, Vietnamese dinner in a local restaurant.
Day 7: Dong Van - Ha Giang Town, 145 km (homestay)
Sealed roads – off-road section. 4hr
We head from Dong van, and get back on the dirt tracks, down the mountains, Take time to stop in the ancient small village and. More amazing roads through the rocky landscape and have a great off-road single track section on our way down to Ha Giang Town, Overnight in a resort outside of town at the village
Day 8: Ha Giang Town - Pan Hou, 90km, (French resort)

Today we have two option, option 1 with easy road 90km come resort early for relax and drink beer and get a massage, OR option 2 with 150 km single track and off-road, leave village climb through the rice terraces and hard off-road through the high mountains and hill-tribe villages to Hoang Su Phi and down to the Dao hill-tribe village of Pan Hou. Overnight in French-run resort with its gardens and relaxing lounge.
Day 9: Pan Hou - Xin Man, 150 km,
(guest house) Sealed roads with dirt sections 6hr
We leave the resort after breakfast and head through terraced rice fields high in the mountains, stopping to meet local hill-tribe people, take photos and check out the countryside, great off-road sections through the terraced mountains, beautiful scenery and landscape and colourfull hill tribe villages. Picnic lunch in the mountains. After lunch, We spend the afternoon taking on more off-road and single tracks through villages on our way to the small town of Xin Man overnight in Guest House, Vietnamese dinner at a local restaurant
Day 10: Xin Man - Lao Cai, 130km,
(Private VIP coach back to Hanoi)
After Breakfast, we head uphill, through the mountains through villages nice rice terraced fields, river crossing, Lunch end route at the Bac Ha town. After Lunch, we take the back roads to Lao Cai and the end of our ride. We have time to take a shower and have dinner before our departure to Hanoi. We take the private VIP coach with WIFI and cold drinks (beer) back to Hanoi, this lets us spend the day driving in the mountains instead of the busy nerve-wracking drive on flat roads back to Hanoi. In Hanoi transfer you back to the hotel end of services.
